May Day and Grandparents' Day 2007

We had wonderful clear weather for our annual Maypole Dance on Grandparents' day!

First we interviewed our visiting senior friends over a light lunch...

We heard all about what school was like when they were our age!

Then we went out to sing and dance the Maypole:

The Monadnocks (Upper Grades) told the tale of Don Quijote in "Man of La Mancha":

Thanks to all the parents and staff who worked so hard to help us produce our K-8 class plays.

HarvestFest 2006: Drumming & Dancing

This is it, our big night of presentations and performances! We're teaching the whole school community about the West African rhythms and dances we learned during our African Studies units this Fall.

These photos come from our final dress rehearsal:

HarvestFest 2006: Storytelling

Here we are presenting our African folktales to younger students:

The cards around our necks are passports, which help us keep track of the many nations of Africa.

As the sun went down, the sky outside lit up with eerie clouds and lights, and we prepared to do our HarvestFest dance...

HarvestFest 2006: Preparations

Here we are getting ready for HarvestFest 2006. It's our International Year, so we're learning the rhythms and dances of Liberia and Nigeria.

HarvestFest 2004

This year's HarvestFest theme is Native Cultures of North America.

We set up a canvas teepee on the "plains" (our soccer field):

We made a story circle of native folktales from all over North America:

We created symbolic medicine shields, and presented them in a musical medicine circle:
